    This article aims to be an overview of the Catalan museum system. It highlights historical development paths, best practices and critical aspects. It analyzes this system both by the qualitative and quantitative points of view, placing them into the institutional and legal framework due to the peculiar history of Cataluņa. Finally, the last part of the article describes the Pla de Museus of the Generalitat de Catalunya 2015-2025 as a window on the future.
