L’impossible réconciliation nationale irakienne?
in Revue internationale et stràtegique , 2011/1 (n° 81) , 2011 , 44-53
As Iraq enters its last year of occupation, the “national reconciliation” process which was launched in the summer of 2006 remains at an impasse. The March 7, 2010 elections which were expected to consecrate the rebuilding of a national pact between Iraqis on the eve of the U.S. military withdrawal have appeared to have led to an even greater fragmentation of the sociopolitical landscape. The power sharing ultimately retained also foresees tensions to come. After the essence of the Iraqi “nation” had been debated at length and then subjected to continued deconstruc-tion from dictatorship, embargo and recent conflict, it will likely take several decades before a genuine national reconciliation occurs.
