The banality of Golden Dawn: return to political normality?
    in Global Affairs , Volume 3, Issue 1 ,  2017 ,  33-44
Golden Dawn remains Greece’s third largest party and has succeeded in maintaining the groupness of its voters during a series of electoral contests (local, national, and European). Nevertheless, Golden Dawn’s leadership is currently standing trial on criminal accusations and this has complicated the operation of the party. This article demonstrates that Golden Dawn remains a crucial political force within a context which is largely shaped by weak stateness and the short-term aims of the governing coalition. Meanwhile, staunch opposition to immigration still forms a major component of the party’s engagement in politics but it has lost much of its violent undertones.
