    The economic crisis starting in 2008 had as consequence numerous changes in the political system. However, the transformation of the party system, could only be partially be explained by this crisis. In order to explain the transformation we have to analyse a long standing crisis which affects the representative democracy, or party democracy. In this paper we will analyse how the social impact of globalization, immigration, European integration and, more generally, failures in the representative role of the parties could be explain the crisis of representative democracy, or party democracy.
